While washing it the dye gave out all the black color in water and now the dye is also reacting to my skin
Dear Shipra,
Thank you for sharing your experience — we truly value your feedback and are sorry to hear about the inconvenience.
**About colour bleeding during the first wash:**
Silk is a natural protein fibre, and hand-dyed or artisan-dyed silk yarns — especially in deep, rich shades like black — are known to release excess dye during the first one or two washes. This is completely normal with natural and reactive dyes on silk. The dye molecules bond to the silk fibre, but any unfixed surface dye (which is unavoidable in small-batch artisan dyeing) will wash out initially. This is why we always recommend:
- Washing in **cold water only**
- Using a **gentle, pH-neutral soap** (like baby shampoo or wool wash)
- Avoiding soaking for extended periods
- Washing **separately** for the first 2–3 washes
**About skin sensitivity:**
Silk dyes — particularly reactive and acid dyes used on natural fibres — can occasionally cause mild skin reactions in people with **sensitive skin or dye allergies**, especially if the yarn is handled while wet or unwashed. The dye is far more likely to transfer or react when wet. We recommend wearing gloves when handling freshly dyed yarn, and always washing hands after working with any dyed fibre.
We'd love to make this right for you. Please reach out to us directly and we'll be happy to assist — whether that's guidance on care or finding a solution that works for you.
Warm regards,
**Team KnitSilk**
